Creating Change Through Education

The World we live in can never be static. We can observe the changes happening in economics, society, politics, culture, infrastructure and technology and everywhere else. It is rightly said, “The Change is the only constant thing in life.”

But the problem is, the change can be both positive or negative. If not guided, monitored and controlled properly, the change can have a drastic effect on our personal and social life. A negative change can fill our lives with misery, sufferings, dangers, sorrows and dissatisfaction.

We don’t need to go far or strive hard to see how the negatives changes had affected our lives. We just have to observe the world around us and we see poverty, exploitation, injustice, diseases, hunger, corruption, pollution, degradation of natural resources and the list goes on and on and on…

It is a fact, these problems were not present in the world from the time eternal. These are the results of greed and unethical behavior of man which gradually turned into a threat to his existence.

There is a need to remind the world of ‘the ethics’ which are needed for the happy, peaceful and comfortable existence on the planet. There is a need to raise moral standards and instil conscience in human which can create justice in society.

Education is the most powerful tool to create awareness among the people, in general, and in the future generation in particular. They must be made aware of the responsibilities they have towards the society, world and nature. It is through education that young minds can be nurtured in a way, that, when they grow up their efforts can turn the world into a place that is better than what it is today.

How Does Education Can Bring About a Change in Life?

Lack of education is common and contrasting characteristics of all those regions which are concentrated by the social evils, superstitions, myths, technological and economic backwardness. Education is one of the best and the most effective tool to eradicate injustice and social evils from the world, and, to bring about a positive change. Education acts to solve the different problems from different aspects. Let’s have a glance at how the quality education system can turn into a ‘life-savour’’ for humanity.

Removal of Superstitions and Social Evils

Education can inculcate the skills of scientific analysis and rational thinking among the young, which are the two most important weapons to vanish the myth, social evils and superstitions prevalent in society. Students who have learned the way to think’ will not accept anything inherited from them from the community or society. Rather they analyze the thoughts and ideas on the grounds of facts, experience and observation. This way, they will be less prone to be infected by false ideas and mythical traditions which becomes the cause of miseries for the weaker sections of the society.

Education Helps to Achieve Economic Independence and Reduce Poverty

One of the major causes of unemployment and poverty is illiteracy. Many people in the world have been trapped in the poverty because of a ‘lack of education and ‘money-making skills’. This forces them to do menial jobs which are not enough even to meet the basic needs of their family. Hence, they have no option but to live in poverty. If proper knowledge, skills and opportunities for gaining experience are given to their children they will become more competent to get high paying jobs or practicing professional services. This will help then to become the economic engine for their families and rescue their families from miseries and sufferings. Schools, institutions and governments can play a crucial role in eradicating unemployment and poverty from the world.

Education as a Tool to Sustain Humanistic Values

Capitalism has made man a creature driven by his greed and desires. The problem arises when he starts exploiting others to fulfil his wants, desires and in possessing more and more luxuries. He becomes a self-centered person with an absence of sensitivity and empathy for others. The result is the creation of two sections in society at one end there are rich who are leading a  luxurious life, and most of them don’t want to share what they have, on the other hand, there are poor who are struggling to satisfy even their basic needs. Similarly, there are countries like ours and the other developed nations while on the other hand there are countries like Sudan, Somalia and Yemen who barely have resources and money to feed the population. By proper education, we can inculcate humanistic values among the students so that they care not only for their career and profession but also for the needs and requirements of the poor, sick and needy.

Education as a Shield to Environment

Most of the environmental and ecological problems are because of the ignorant and greedy actions of man. The man has abruptly used the environment to feed its industries and factories and to generate more and more wealth and accumulate as much capital as he can. He injudiciously used the resources to make his present glorious without thinking about the Future. As a result, we now have just a few years left to control all this mess that we have created otherwise it will become an extremely difficult task to take a breath on the earth. Education is the most powerful tool for creating awareness among the folks of the environmental problems and motivating them to take appropriate actions to conserve the environment.

In this way, proper education can act as an active agent to bring about a positive change in the world.
